As a Staff Engineer on the ML Platform team at Chime, you'll architect and lead development of scalable ML infrastructure used to fight fraud, personalize experiences, and power intelligent decision-making across Chime. You'll define foundational systems that enable model training, real-time inference, and ML observability at scale. You’ll collaborate across teams to accelerate Chime’s AI ambitions and shape the future of ML at Chime.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $198,990.00 and up to $281,900.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to:- Design and scale ML infrastructure for real-time and batch inference
- Lead architectural decisions for feature pipelines, model training, deployment, and monitoring systems
- Drive platform reliability and observability, including SLOs, dependency graphs, and drift detection
- Build high-throughput, low-latency APIs integrating with core Chime services
- Partner with Data Science, Risk, and Product teams to ensure ML solutions are robust, compliant, and performant
- Guide adoption and evolution of our SageMaker-based ML training pipelines
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical strategy for the ML Platform team
- 7+ years of experience in backend or ML infrastructure roles
- 5+ years building scalable systems with AWS (SageMaker, Lambda, S3, Kinesis), Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform
- Proficiency with Python, Golang, or equivalent; deep knowledge of distributed systems
- Experience in MLOps and ML lifecycle tools (MLflow, Feature Stores)
- Familiarity with model observability techniques: drift detection, model explainability, cohorting
- Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and mentoring engineers
- Familiarity with AWS (SageMaker, Lambda, DynamoDB), Arize, Kumo.ai, Datadog, Terraform, Kinesis, Snowflake, Python
