ABOUT THE RISK MANAGEMENT TEAM

We’ve assembled a world-class team of risk professionals that are passionate about protecting Varo and its customers from harm. Varo’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Operational Risk Management (ORM) programs are managed by the Head of Enterprise and Operational Risk. This position will support ERM reporting, issue and event management, process mapping and design, operational risk and control assessment, third party risk management, and business resiliency planning and testing.

This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help build the risk framework for Varo, the bank of the future. Because of its unique digital platform and the delivery of its services from the cloud, we are breaking new ground on the compliance and risk framework that we will use as we build the bank. WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Engage with business owners and facilitate the development of process flow diagrams for critical processes in areas such as operations, lending, marketing, and finance 
• Assist business owners in identifying and measuring operational risks and effective controls through a risk and control self-assessment
• Develop, prioritize and maintain an issues log for process gaps identified and track issues through resolution
• Facilitate the ongoing update of the risk and control self-assessments 
• Assess individual third parties with respect to business continuity, privacy and other operational risks
• Evaluate, characterize and provide mitigation recommendations to address potential risk posed by our third parties
• Track operational risk events and issues and ensure proactive root cause analysis and remediation strategies are developed and deployed
• Monitor the closure of issues to ensure that the documented rationale for closure and independent review of evidence is appropriate
• Develop, monitor and report on key risk indicators and metrics and escalate when business activities exceed Varo’s risk tolerance 
• Partner with business owners and ensure they have adequate business resiliency plans in place

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES THAT'LL HELP YOU BE GREAT

• A bachelor's degree in business, finance, operations management or equivalent, graduate-level degree preferred
• 6 to 10 years of experience in enterprise or operational risk management at a financial institution
• Prior experience with RSA Archer GRC platform
• Strong analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff
• A commitment to a growth mindset

• Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, high volume environment
