At Standard Cognition, we’re rethinking the way retail works. We are enabling autonomous checkout for brick & mortar retailers with our AI-powered computer vision platform. Since launching in November 2017, Standard now has contracts with multiple global retailers and is in the process of deploying our Standard Checkout solution across thousands of stores globally. We announced our Series A in November 2018, backed by some of Silicon Valley’s leading investors including CRV, Initialized, Draper Associates and YCombinator, and we just closed our Series B.

Standard Cognition is hiring our first Product Designer to own the user-facing products on our data collection, labelling, and reviewing team - the human teacher for artificial intelligence. You will work closely with our Product, Engineering and Operations teams to build tools that train our AI, in the process establishing a user research and experimentation-driven approach. Our goal is to create solutions that are desirable, feasible, and viable and as a Product Designer, you sit right in that sweet spot.

What you'll do here:

  • Own the interface and workflow design for our Machine Learning data operation team, designing user flows and interactions in close collaboration with those who use the tools.
  • Design, conduct and analyze product experiments to build tools that generate higher quality and more extensive data for ML.
  • Partner with Product, Strategy and Planning, and Engineering to solve business challenges.
  • Facilitate company-wide design thinking, user research, and experimentation-oriented mindset.

Who you are:

  • You understand complex, information-heavy user interaction flows, and system architecture.
  • You are passionate about prototyping, building and continually iterating on digital products throughout the product life cycle.
  • You are fluent in fundamental interaction and visual design and are:
  • Able to convey concepts through wireframes, flows and mockups.
  • Good at using visual design tools like Figma and Sketch.
  • Fluent in prototyping via Flinto, Principle, or similar tools.
  • You can clearly articulate the process, approach, and impact of your design using verbal and visual presentations.
  • You have 4+ years of working experience in designing digital products, services, and experiences from ideation to implementation or have otherwise demonstrated ability to execute on an interaction design team.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or internal products is nice to have!

Why you might want to work with us:

  • We take care of you and your family with health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • We're serious about food. Free catered lunch every day, and a fully stocked kitchen with occasional snack appearances from our Japanese office. Healthy and not-so-healthy options are available, as are foods for those with dietary restrictions.
  • You're excited to work on a product that will impact almost any consumer, almost anywhere.
  • We dress casually. If you want, you can wear slippers in the office. You should see the creative collection our team has built.
  • We believe in a culture of learning, and want to keep building our skills, experiences, and capabilities.
  • We offer flexible work schedules. We trust our team to know how they will do their best work.
  • We're family friendly. We want our teammates to focus on what they need to when they need to.
  • We offer very competitive compensation, including equity in Standard, to each one of our employees.

Standard provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome people from all backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and abilities.
