Software Engineering Manager - Search & Feed

What you’ll be doing...The Software Engineering Manager - Search & Feeds leads the teams building and operating Primer’s core search and information retrieval services, pushing forward the capabilities and performance of our platform. You will be applying your deep understanding of search and information retrieval algorithms, appreciation for data, and your knack for building great software that delivers jaw-dropping value. As a practitioner, you can pick up the latest paper on search relevance, understand its application, and quickly envision a solution, and then see it through to implementation, running at scale in production. You are comfortable with open-ended problems defined by customer needs, and relish the joy of taking a raw idea from, “hmm, how can this be solved?” through to a finished product.
You’ll partner with product leadership to build a product roadmap that delights and astounds our customers. Most importantly, you will mentor and develop a rapidly growing multi-disciplinary team of engineers and recruit new experts to join your team. You’ll work to ensure the quality of the work they produce, and make sure they have the tools and skills to excel. This role requires a breadth of expertise, an ability to learn quickly, and an eagerness to engage in collaboration across the company.
On Any Given Day, you might...Deep dive into a search relevance problem
Write a design on improving search performance or scale without impacting cost
Mentor an engineer to accomplish something they didn’t think they were capable of
Recruit a new engineer into your multi-disciplinary team of software engineers and data scientists
Help prototype a technique for making an n-squared algorithm run incrementally in a world of streaming documents
Evangelize Primer’s team and mission to customers
Oversee the relevance, scalability, and reliability of your team’s production services
