The Role

Grove’s Operations Technology team is responsible for the platform that fulfills every Grove customer orders, and enables our team to provide world class service to all of our members. 

We’re looking for a leader who is interested in leading a greenfield project to build the next generation of our warehouse and fulfillment technology. The platform you and your team will build will support our national network of warehouses and associates, and enable them to completely manage our warehouse labor force, inventory, fulfill orders, move inventory between locations, and handle customer returns.

The team you will help staff and build is new, so this role will be a combination of hands on design, development, team development (including hiring), as well as product management. You’ll have direct responsibility to help us select the tools we’ll use to build the platform, work with our operations teams to help define and refine our warehouse processes so they’re more efficient, as well as build great software. As the team grows, your priorities will shift toward leadership and team development.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build on their existing team and engineering leadership experience who is interested in learning how to build organizations from the ground up.

Your Impact & Responsibilities

  • You’ll be working to help architect a brand new system, and will work with teams across our technology organization to define where and how a new system should integrate into our existing environment.
  • You'll have an opportunity to understand how to build software that interacts with the built environment in our warehouses and our customer service centers, including automation, robotics, and mobile-first web applications that work well with intermittent connectivity.
  • You’ll help us determine where and how to apply state-of-the-art optimization and machine learning tools into our stack to help improve associate productivity. This will include both modeling and simulation work that integrates into our product prototypes.
  • You’ll work closely with our internal teams (the users of your software) to rapidly prototype and release new functionality, including the opportunity to visit our locations across the US.
  • You will have a chance to develop both desktop and mobile applications, as our warehouse teams work on-the-go as well as workstations.

About You

  • You’ve worked as an engineer for 5-10 years, and have a balanced history of frontend and backend work.
  • You've lead and managed high performing engineering teams for 1+ years.
  • You are fluent in at least two programming languages, with a preference that one of them be Python.
  • You’re fluent with the frontend tools and frameworks used to build modern web applications (Vue, React, Angular, etc.)
  • You’re comfortable working with a variety of relational databases, notably PostgreSQL and MySQL, and have a good understanding of how data from production systems integrates into enterprise data warehouses.
  • You’re skilled at instrumentation, monitoring, and diagnostics of production systems, and know how to design new systems to be easily supportable and serviceable by users and technicians who are not on your team.
  • You’re open to travel to work with our warehouse teams in our locations across the US (currently MO, PA, and NV.)You get bonus points for previous experience in commerce, customer service, CRM, catalog, or warehouse technologies.
