The Role

The Span engineering team is made of experienced, passionate people with expertise in electronics, mechanical design, energy systems, and embedded software. We are seeking an experienced and driven mechanical or electrical engineer to lead the reliability program for Span through all stages of development. As the lead reliability engineer, you will rely on your past experience to develop a comprehensive reliability test program for new products and support any reliability issues that arise in the field. You will work with the electrical, mechanical, and systems teams to implement test plans and delegate work to contractors. As the company grows, you will build out and manage a reliability team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of DFR (Design for Reliability), including reliability targets, usage models, DFMEA, test specs, test planning and reliability growth for the Span panel.
  • Determine product test strategies that optimize for product reliability DFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to design and execution of product and component level reliability testing including hands on testing with real hardware.
  • Conduct test data analysis, clearly communicate test results, and collaborate with design engineers to resolve issues detected in testing.
  • Contribute to design reviews and FMEA sessions.
  • Procure and develop test equipment to test future products.
  • Build and mentor the hardware reliability engineering team.
  • Conduct failure analysis for both the current product and new product development, then work with cross-functional teams for corrective actions.
  • Work with US and Asia based contract manufacturers (CMs) and components suppliers for reliability test plans/results.
  • Manage relationships with 3rd party testing facilities.

About You

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 8-12 years experience developing and running reliability tests including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing.
  • Experience with analysis of test results including statistical analysis techniques.
  • Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems.
  • Hands-on approach whether it be building a prototype or performing testing.
  • Experience leading projects with a diverse team under tight timelines.
  • Experience working closely with contract manufacturers and leading design for manufacturing.
  • Experience working safely with high voltage equipment (up to 600-1000V).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success working in a cross disciplinary, multi-cultural environment.
  • Previously led a team of reliability engineers and enjoys mentorship.
  • Experience working with and testing AC and/or DC power systems.
  • Knowledge of national and international safety and regulatory requirements such as UL, National Electric Code (NEC), IEC, and ISO.
  • Experience taking products through certification testing and working with NRTLs.
  • Enjoys developing complex products and taking them from prototype to volume production.
  • Experience with root cause analysis (RCA) of field failures.
