Principal Security Architect

As a Principal Security Architect at Fastly you will help ensure we provide a secure edge for one of the biggest online platforms in the world, handling massive amounts of traffic at very low latency. Fastly’s Security Architecture Team champions security throughout all areas of Fastly’s applications and infrastructure. Fastly believes that security is everyone’s job and you will be empowering all of Fastly to live up to that responsibility. Qualified candidates will excel at analyzing the design of our software and implementations, and will show an aptitude for discovering complex security issues.

What You'll Do

• Perform architecture and design reviews as part of Fastly’s threat-informed Risk Assessment process, coordinating with engineering teams to develop security as code and integrating secure by design principles into engineering builds
• Leading the development of our security policies for software, infrastructure, and humans, striving to build compliance, auditability, compensating controls and security directly into all processes
• Research and understand new threats and attack vectors that impact Fastly and work with system owners to design appropriate detection and remediation initiatives
• Involvement in Fasty’s Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), focusing on both collaborative hands-on design work and training initiatives across the company
• Become a deep domain expert in Fastly’s technology stack, enthusiastically improving the overall security posture of various assets at Fastly based on recent security trends
• Partner with engineering teams to identify cyberattack risks in the system and define tactical and strategic mitigation plans, develop business cases for funding security initiatives, and advocate for security positions in key decisions and roadmaps

What We're Looking For

At Fastly we value a diversity of voices. The following is not a laundry list, but to be effective in this role you should possess some of the following and an interest in learning more about the rest:

• Significant experience at all layers of the information security stack including hands-on security engineering
• Significant experience with threat modeling and application security assessments
• Significant experience with Linux, associated intrusion/manipulation techniques, and standard methodologies for system hardening and risk mitigation
• Consistent track record designing and integrating security controls in cloud-based and bare metal architectures
• Experience securing network protocol architectures and implementations
• Prior experience working with engineering teams on design and implementation of best-practices for security as code
• Have the mindset of “First-Time-Right” and “Secure-By-Default”
• Working knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK, NIST CSF, and CIS Critical Control frameworks
• Experience working at scale
