Senior Director, Engineering (PKI)

Fastly is looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial leader to join as our Senior Director, Engineering for PKI. This a great opportunity for proven individuals looking to have an impact on the next wave of infrastructure securing the global Internet! Security and trust is a core feature of everything we do at Fastly, so we are investing heavily in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) systems to support and grow our services. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, executing, and supporting Fastly’s long term PKI strategy. You will lead a team of PKI software engineers, system administrators, and architects to deliver advanced solutions that support Fastly customers. A solid foundation in engineering management is required, along with the people skills needed to influence and negotiation across teams. What You'll Do

  • Recruits and manage a team of engineers that support of our PKI mission.
  • Sets and directs technical program oversight specific to the PKI security domain; identifies risks, needs, and architecture to support the PKI operations; designs policy and implements processes to deliver secure / auditable operating environments.
  • Develops and iterates standards for certificate generation, deployment, and revocation.
  • Creates and evaluates future opportunities to leverage an in-house PKI platform.
  • Integrates matrix resources from other Fastly teams to accomplish team objectives and goals.
  • Collaborates with other industry luminaries and standards groups in evolving security of the Internet and its relation to PKI.
  • Works together with business functions (finance, legal, and compliance) to ensure objectives on budget, risk, and compliance are adhered to and met.
  • Provides critical issue support for all PKI related events and/or incidents at Fastly (e.g. 24x7x365 pager rotation required)

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience in PKI systems and management, and certificate lifecycle management.
  • 7+ years experience as an engineering leader and program executive sponsor; must be comfortable in leading a distributed team.
  • Significant professional experience in Strong Authentication and Multi-factor Technologies, Cryptographic Services, Data Protection, and Hardware Security Module (HSM) technology.
  • Experience with PKI-related compliance frameworks. 
  • Must be a strong communicator, verbally and in documentation.
  • Capable of designing metrics, iterating on measurement, and motivating change.
  • Capable of travel; must be able to obtain a passport for international travel.
  • Minimum B.S. level credentials in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Security and/or Business
  • A security industry certification is desired (but not required).
