We have a simple mission at Calm: To make the world a happier and healthier place.

The heart of Calm is digital but the brand is expanding offline into a variety of products and services that bring more peace, clarity and perspective into people’s busy lives. We are building Calm into the Nike of the Mind. We believe Calm can become one of the most valuable and meaningful brands in the world.

Over 50 Million people have downloaded the app and we are growing by 85,000 new downloads a day. The company is profitable and headquartered in San Francisco, CA.

Calm was co-founded by Alex Tew (Million Dollar Homepage) and Michael Acton Smith (Mind Candy, Moshi Monsters, Firebox).

As a Senior/Lead Quality Assurance Engineer you will drive a new level of quality to our products at Calm. You will love to hunt down and reproduce the trickiest bugs. You will also own automating and streamlining our process for detecting issues, facilitating us to scale our products and features efficiently without sacrificing quality. We're looking for someone to bring a passion for quality to the entire organization.

Outcomes

  • Reduce the number of bugs we ship to production across all platforms and clients
  • Help hire and develop a team of QA engineers
  • Build a framework & baseline for our QA best practices
  • Automate as much of our smoke tests and acceptance tests as possible
  • Use the latest technologies in test automation to reduce the amount of time it takes to validate that a new feature or build is acceptable for production
  • Proactively assist application and frontend engineers in finding, reproducing and identifying bugs
  • Be on call from time to time if there is a critical issue on production that can’t be simply rolled back.
  • Assist in post-mortems after critical bugs, identifying root causes and resolution actions
  • Assist engineers with deploying code to production, rolling back buggy code, and having visibility on the status of Pull Requests and client builds as they get deployed
  • Assist our content team in uploading content via our internal tools and validating that it works properly in the app
  • Devise innovative and cost-effective strategies for finding bugs — algorithmic anomaly detection, automated screenshot diffing etc.

Competencies

  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Javascript. Able to read and reference other code across our codebases.
  • Strong product instincts
  • Efficient, fast at the keyboard
  • Extremely strong attention to detail
  • Proactive. Will follow up when things don’t get resolved.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for quality. Sees QA as not just a stepping-stone.
