Mortgage is one of the youngest and fastest-growing teams at Credit Karma. We are building products for one of the most complicated and stressful financial transactions our members will ever experience: buying their dream home. We help users understand how mortgages work, find a great realtor, and find the best mortgage for their needs. Since 2017 (our first year), our Mortgage business has grown over 90x, and that’s just the beginning!

As a backend engineer, you’ll be using Scala to build powerful backend interfaces to support new product experiences on mobile and desktop web. You’ll work on a tight-knit, cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, designers, and other business functions.

What You’ll Do

  • Build large-scale applications in Scala and TypeScript
  • Own projects and the complete software development lifecycle
  • Work closely with team members to build scalable features and systems
  • Partner with designers, product managers, analysts, and program managers
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
  • Influence the features and direction of the product with your own ideas

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on software development experience
  • Proficient in Scala or Java (we code primarily in Scala)
  • Knowledge of microservice architectures, messaging patterns, deployment models, and domain driven design
  • Experience across the entire software development process; from development environment, to CI & CD, to production deployment, product and application performance measurement
  • Customer empathy and business focus
  • Experience working on a multi-functional team

Additional Experience You Bring

  • Experience leading engineers and projects
  • Knowledge of the FinTech or Mortgage industry
  • DevOps experience is a plus, specifically Docker, Kubernetes, cloud services.
