About the role:
Leads efforts within the organization to drive the development and maintenance of backend services and solutions to support user-facing products, downstream services, or infrastructure tools and platforms used across Uber.
As a lead engineer on this team, you will

• Work on cutting edge technologies to automatically detect and prevent bot logins/signups and account takeovers.
• Build scalable device intelligence platform that collects detailed device data from mobile and web browser and builds unique device identifiers to reduce friction and prevent fraud.
• Integrate with 3rd parties to perform additional data validations
• Integrate with business systems dealing with risk, safety, and compliance.
• Provide product security expertise and technical direction for account security & device intelligence initiatives defined by the business.
• Provide guidance and support to product development teams throughout the product development lifecycle on a variety of security requirements.
• Build strong partnerships with counterparts in core engineering, operations, and compliance.

About the Team:
The Trusted Identity team plays a crucial role in our mission to thoroughly verify the identity of our customers (riders) and partners (drivers, restaurants, freight companies) while ensuring powerful, intuitive and frictionless user experiences.
Our team is building a scalable and flexible platform that enables teams across Uber to create custom collection and verification flows for their use cases. Platform offers a variety of verification solutions built in house or in partnership with third parties across the globe. Team also builds machine learning based intelligence and similarity search infra to establish trust in a user's integrity and uniqueness.
Minimum qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field AND 4-years full-time Software Engineering work experience OR 7-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 4-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)

• Note the 4-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The years of specialized experience are not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.

Technical skills:
Required:

• Distributed systems

Preferred:

• 2+ years experience as tech lead
• Experience defining charters, roadmaps, and recruiting team members
• Experience implementing complex projects with multiple dependencies
• Experience with large-scale, distributed systems development
• Experience cross-collaborating with multiple orgs to drive impact
• Experience with fraud prevention
• Experience with Machine Learning
