Change.org is searching for a Vice President of Engineering with demonstrated excellence at driving high-velocity development for consumer internet products at scale. Your mission will be to lead the expansion of our platform to support hundreds of millions of people to take deeper and more regular civic action on the local and global issues they care about, with the goal of helping to create more participatory and responsive democracies around the world.

We’re a public benefit corporation and the largest tech platform focused on civic action in the world, with 80m monthly users, 50,000 campaigns launched on the site every month, 50 engineering staff, and a new revenue model that has grown by 500% in the past 2 years. We’re profitable, growing quickly, and rapidly scaling our impact. We have local teams supporting citizen-led campaigns in 18 of the world’s largest democracies, and our users win campaigns for change once every hour - from strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa, to stopping corruption in Italy, to fighting the exploitation of the environment in Indonesia.

The VP of Engineering will be based out of our San Francisco office and report to our CEO. As a key member of our executive team, you’ll oversee all aspects of Engineering, which includes feature teams for growth, engagement, and revenue, as well as horizontal teams for Platform, Infrastructure, and Data Intelligence across our engineering offices in San Francisco, Victoria, B.C., and Paris. Our team of 50 engineers are committed to lean and agile development, have recently transitioned to an autonomous team structure, and leverage modern web technologies (we recently built a new high-volume communications stack using Elixir, migrated our Front-end to React, and began decoupling our services with an event-driven architecture). We are 100% cloud-based through AWS.

We are looking for an exceptional leader who can hire and inspire an outstanding team, create scalable and high-performing systems, and achieve ambitious company goals, while building a culture that is open, collaborative, and diverse.

See below for the most important responsibilities, capabilities, values, and experience for this executive role.
