As Discord’s Corporate Controller, you will oversee corporate accounting, tax, payroll, equity admin and development of accounting systems and automation, development of internal controls and procedures. Areas of focus will be financial/SEC reporting in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and foreign statutory reporting for income and VAT tax compliance. You will be essential for ensuring Discord’s business operations matures and scales to match the trajectory of Discords growth.What you'll be doing
- Ensure consistent implementation of corporate accounting principles, procedures, and revenue recognition policies in full compliance with US GAAP
- Run the financial close process and all associated processes and reporting to provide accurate results to the organization to promote critical decision-making
- Oversee monthly financial close including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts, and preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Lead Discord’s implementation of SOX 404, including documentation of processes, creation of 404 control matrices and managing the testing of controls
- Develop, implement, and maintain the internal systems and financial controls consistent with Discord’s policies and regulatory guidelines, ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal tax requirements and filings
- Prepare the company for public company accounting and reporting standards (e.g. SEC reporting and SOX compliance)
- Lead a team of accounting professionals with responsibilities for the general ledger, tax, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, stock plan administration, and financial reporting
- Manage relationships with auditors and external accounting/tax advisors
- Provide leadership and vision for scaling the team and our financial infrastructure to keep up with the demands of Discord’s high-growth business
- Build relationships and partner with department leaders to understand key issues and goals. Provide data and insights to help managers run the company and make effective decisions
- Understand and document reporting needs, collaborate on operational issues, develop creative solutions in the absence of perfect systems, and provide business guidance and insight through financial reporting
- Improve and automate efforts to refine Accounting operations related to revenue accounting and improve the quality of monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, and internal controls
- Partner with FP&A around monthly variance analysis, management reporting, and GAAP reporting
- Scale financial infrastructure, including systems, tools, and processes
What you should have
- 10+ years experience, combination of public accounting and public or private company operating preferred.
- Experience implementing SOX 404 from ground up: Implementation of framework, Documentation of processes, Creation of control matrices, Testing
- A technical accounting background, CPA or CMA required
- Successfully evaluated, implemented, and integrated financial systems and tools; ERP implementation experience preferred
- Collaborated actively and effectively on multidisciplinary teams
- Can create common knowledge and recommend decisions at all levels of the organization and with external partners
- Big 4 experience preferred
- Experience with direct-to-consumer, eCommerce, or subscription businesses
- Bachelor's Degree. Concentration in Accounting or Finance preferred
