Description

Chronicle Books is looking for a Gift Editor to originate, develop, and manage 8-10 titles per season with a particular focus on gift and stationery. Titles should be distinctive and profitable, and they should speak directly to their end consumers.

The Gift Editor will originate, acquire, and edit distinctive, profitable projects in key areas of the list -notably, but not limited to, gift and stationery products in the Art category. The person in this position will provide oversight of acquired projects, they will research trends, originate and acquire titles in 26-28 formats, actively pursue new artists, and maintain relationships with existing partners. They will actively seek ideas from within areas of focus, evaluate and respond to submissions, negotiate deals with authors, agents, licensors, packagers, and overseas publishers, and maintain relationships with them. They will also guide the title through the publishing process, serve as an ongoing contact between authors and Chronicle Books, work with others in-house to optimize our publishing, share ideas and category research, and engage in category reviews. Attendance will be needed at pub group meetings, launches, conferences, and trade shows as required.

Employees at Chronicle Books follow a flexible hybrid schedule of working a minimum of 3 days per week and up to 4 days per week in our San Francisco office, depending on project and business needs. Please note that this job description is not designed to cover all the activities required of the employee.

Hiring Salary Range - $68,000/yr - $78,200/yr. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including but not limited to an applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for our profit share plan.

Requirements

Candidates should have five years of editorial experience and a demonstrated passion and ability for creating innovative, profitable, and timely gift and stationery products. In addition, candidates should have excellent quantitative and negotiation skills, verbal and written communication skills, and proven expertise. Candidates should also be able to work independently and as an effective team member.
