InfluxData is seeking its first Associate Counsel, reporting to the Head of Legal, to scale the legal function and provide practical advice on a wide range of global matters!

You’ll work closely with the Head of Legal and leaders of other departments to achieve business and legal objectives and mitigate risk. This role includes negotiating contracts and other agreements, supporting all departments and functions with legal review and advice, including advice on broader strategic issues. It requires a good understanding of corporate, commercial, tech transactions, intellectual property, privacy, compliance, and employment.

This role is ideal for an in-house generalist (and one who wants to further develop those skills) with strong leadership ability to partner in order to optimize the legal function in an innovative and fast-growing company.

This is intended to be a full-time position based in San Francisco, but open to considering part-time candidates.

What You’d Be Doing:

  • Review, negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial, channel, business development, confidentiality and other license agreements, and optimize the company’s standard templates
  • Provide business-focused advice to all departments, most especially Sales and Product, to achieve timely business objectives
  • Develop an understanding of and advise on data privacy issues (CCPA, GDPR, etc.)
  • Develop an understanding of and advise on basic employment issues
  • Manage outside counsel’s delivery of legal services, where needed
  • Identify and drive optimizations to improve internal and scalable legal processes
  • Manage special projects as required to support the business

What You’d Bring to the Team:

  • JD from an accredited institution and member of the California bar in good standing
  • 5-7 years practicing law, preferably with some in-house experience (tech start-up experience a plus)
  • Solution-oriented attorney who is business-minded with practical risk awareness
  • Results-driven, proactive and resourceful
  • Enjoys a fast-paced, high-growth and informal start-up environment where demands and priorities can change rapidly
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of working both in teams and independently, but understands when to escalate issues
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and to develop collaborative cross-functional relationships
  • Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and being hands-on
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented, self-starter with positive “can do” attitude and a sense of humor
  • Broad experience set a definite plus. You enjoy and/or want to develop a broad generalist skill set, but have experience in key areas (contract negotiation, privacy and employment).
