Employment Counsel
About Rippling
Rippling is the first way for businesses to manage their HR & IT — from payroll and benefits, to employee computers and apps — all in one, modern system.
In just 90-seconds, a company can set up (or disable) an employee’s payroll, health insurance, work computer, and third-party apps, like Gmail, Microsoft Office, and Slack. It’s the only platform that truly unifies every employee system, and automates all of the administrative work.
Rippling is headquartered in San Francisco and has raised over $200M from top-tier investors, including Founders Fund, Greenoaks Capital, Coatue Management, Kleiner Perkins, and YCombinator.
About the Role
We are looking for a super sharp, highly-motivated, forward-thinking senior counsel to be our Employment Counsel (and third practicing attorney on our team). This is an exciting opportunity to flex your employment law skills as both a legal advisor to the company and its product teams, working on innovative solutions to empower HR teams. You will interface with multiple teams at Rippling (HR, Talent, and various product and business teams) as well as with regulators, industry groups, and outside vendors to develop and execute on a wide range of corporate, product, compliance and regulatory initiatives. Creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance and process management will be crucial to this role, and you will have an opportunity to make a big impact in a fast-paced organization creating a first-in-kind platform that spans numerous regulated industries. You will also help drive the compliance culture at Rippling and embed integrity and compliance in all of our operations as our company grows.
What You'll Be Doing:
Advise on a broad range of employment law matters, including recruiting, employee relations, compensation and benefits, wages and hour, immigration, and workplace investigations.
Partner with our human resources and talent teams to develop forward-looking policies and trainings to ensure that Rippling continues to be a best place to work.
Partner with our product team to efficiently design, build, and launch new features related to our benefits, human resources, and PEO software products.
Build a world-class legal and compliance function from the ground up.
Provide guidance and advice to senior leadership on a broad range of employment topics.
Draft and review employment agreements and policies.
Manage vendors and external counsel supporting Rippling’s operations.
Monitor and self-study on regulatory developments relevant to the HR industry.
Assist with Rippling’s general corporate legal activities, including ethics, litigation and risk management, and so on!
Qualifications:
4+ years of experience directly related to this role, including at a law firm, in-house, and/or other relevant roles.
Subject matter expertise in employment law and advising on major federal and California employment laws. Bonus points for insurance, ERISA, immigration, wage and hour, PEO, litigation, or international employment law experience.
Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting and hard-working) in generating new and innovative solutions to build out the Legal & Compliance program.
Demonstrated solution-oriented business and legal judgment.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Excellent communicator both internally and externally, with ability to break down complex legal jargon into easy-to-understand and practical advice.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Sense of humor.
Law degree (e.g. JD or equivalent).
If you don’t necessarily meet all of the requirements listed here, we still encourage you to apply because skills can be used in lots of different ways, your life experience is equally important sometimes.
Rippling is an equal opportunity employer.
