Facebook seeks a highly motivated and experienced attorney to serve as Lead Counsel, Legal Investigations. The successful candidate will work with investigative teams in the United States and abroad to identify and prevent harm while protecting the rights, privacy and safety of our users. The successful candidate will join a team that supports investigations involving physical and online threats, as well as emergency response. The position requires travel within and outside the United States, as well as work during evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary to support urgent matters and collaborate with our employees throughout the world.

Lead Counsel, Legal Investigations Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel to Facebook's security and integrity teams during investigations and incident response, as well as regarding information sharing efforts

  • Ensure investigations comply with laws, regulations and Facebook’s policies

  • Advise on user data disclosure and security issues in the United States and more broadly

  • Work with business and engineering teams to design and implement innovative privacy and security solutions, particularly those related to integrity and investigations

  • Retain and manage outside counsel

  • Investigate matters relating to on-platform abuse, including terrorism and other threats

  • Collaborate with and support business partners on user data and security matters, including advising on proposed policies and advising on new product development

  • Work with security teams to conduct after-action reviews and remediate security risks

    Minimum Qualifications

    • J.D. (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one U.S. State Bar

    • 5+ years of legal experience, including experience litigating criminal cases and/or advising on matters involving engagement with law enforcement agencies

    • 3+ years of investigations related experience, or experience advising investigators

    • Experience advising on data protection, privacy, or matters involving the Stored Communications Act

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience as a prosecutor investigating national security matters or other serious crimes

      • Experience in crisis management

      • Experience working with law enforcement and national security authorities domestically and internationally

      • Experience working with data protection authorities, financial institutions, and internet industry associations
