Privacy and Product Counsel - Regulated Industries
Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity, assuming candidates have eligible working rights and a sufficient timezone overlap with their team. As our offices re-open, Atlassians can choose to work remotely or return to an office, unless it’s necessary for the role to be performed in the office. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Open to candidates anywhere in the US
Job description
We are looking for a driven, organized, and self-motivated attorney to join our growing privacy team at Atlassian as a Privacy and Product Counsel focused on the needs of cloud customers. You’ll have an initial focus on our customers in regulated industries (like healthcare and the U.S. public sector). Further, you’ll support go-to-market efforts to address the privacy needs of customers under other legal frameworks that are key to our business (like the GDPR).
This is your opportunity to be at the forefront of a privacy program at an exciting, fast-growing company with an outstanding culture and legal team!
In this role, you’ll:
- Engage with cross-functional teams to build and adapt Atlassian’s cloud products so they are loved by all customers.
- Effectively communicate privacy and data use requirements to the business that are associated with regulated industry laws and certifications (such as HIPAA and FedRAMP), and global privacy laws (such as the GDPR).
- Design and manage scalable processes.
- Translate product capabilities and compliance programs into contractual commitments.
- Negotiate privacy and data use issues in customer and vendor contracts, and create playbooks for our commercial legal teams.
- Foster customer and sales team trust through clear communication and advocacy.
- Participate in the response to potential privacy or data security incidents, including investigations, notifications, and other resolution efforts.
More about you:
- You take ownership, roll up your sleeves, and get things done.
- You are extremely well organized and manage complex projects.
- You can navigate a complex organization and work with ambiguity.
- You can communicate clearly and concisely with our business partners to help them understand the impact of laws and regulatory frameworks.
- You can think about issues from the customer’s perspective to generate possible solutions.
- You are clear, thoughtful, and forthcoming in discussions about risk.
- You take the initiative to master new subject areas, whether new laws, new technologies, or business strategies.
- You have a passion to understand our customers, products, culture, and business model
On the first day you’ll have:
- JD and admission to one state bar
- 4-8+ years practicing law, with in-house experience preferred but not required
- Experience counseling a technology company on key global privacy frameworks, with some experience in one of HIPAA and FedRamp preferred but not required
- Passion for working with technical teams to develop customer-centric solutions
- Drive to improve on existing processes
- You build relationships with business stakeholders to strengthen the connection between our teams and the business
