The Company
Astra's mission is to improve life on Earth from space by creating a healthier and more connected planet. Astra delivered its first commercial payload into Earth orbit in 2021, making it the fastest company in history to reach this milestone, just five years after being founded in 2016. By achieving monthly, weekly, then daily launches, we'll create the infrastructure services our customers need in space to build a healthier and more connected planet. If you're excited by a sense of possibility, the chance to innovate, and make a difference here on Earth, we think you should work here too.
The Opportunity
Astra is a space services company, taking a vertically integrated approach to improving life on Earth from space. Today, Astra designs, builds, and operates a complete orbital launch system, delivering launch services for our customers. Building on this capability, Astra's next step is to design and build a complete space system: a constellation of versatile spacecraft, leveraging Astra's in-house launch and development resources. We're building this to deliver a new generation of space services to the world: starting with a new kind of global broadband service to deliver connectivity where it's needed most.
Central to this effort, the Product team at Astra utilizes its understanding of the customer and the market to lead the company in formulating product vision and strategy, curating and delivering on a product roadmap, and leading cross-functional teams to build and launch commercially successful products and services. Product Managers at Astra lead the charge in shaping what we'll build to achieve our mission.
How You'll Fulfill Your Mission

    • As a Product Manager - Constellation Services, you will be responsible for leading the company in planning and delivering a suite of space-based services built on our vertically-integrated Space Platform. You will build a deep understanding of the full spectrum of services that customers need to deliver from space - including (but not limited to) Earth observation, weather forecasting, space situational awareness, and position, navigation, and timing. Working with our Engineering, Sales, Operations, and other teams at Astra, you will then identify and shape the right applications to build on Astra's Space Platform, delivering valuable space services for our customers.
    • You will report to the VP of Product for Space Services and work closely with the Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Sales, Regulatory, and Finance organizations at Astra to choreograph new product releases, balancing the complex trade-space between service features, performance, reliability, materials, labor, operational costs, capital, regulatory aspects, and long-term strategy.
    • You are passionate about the full spectrum of what we build at Astra. Gradually, you will develop a complete understanding of our complete space system, including the role your product/service plays and the interfaces with other parts of the system. Over time, you will likely take ownership of different products as we intentionally rotate and cross-train the team. Job title and leveling are flexible (e.g., Associate Product Manager, Product Manager, or Senior Product Manager), depending on candidate experience level.

Desired Multipliers

    • BS or MS/PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Design, or similarly relevant discipline.
    • 12-15+ years of product management experience in companies that develop complex hardware and software products.
    • Expertise in fields such as aeronautics/astronautics, telecommunications, electric vehicles, industrial automation, enterprise software, autonomous systems, factory automation, fluid mechanics.

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies. You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. Here at Astra, we know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.
