Oakland-based company Unagi announced Wednesday that it raised $10.5 million in a Series A funding round to expand access to its e-scooter subscription service.

Last summer, Unagi launched its All-Access service, a try-before-you-buy e-scooter subscription program. Unagi All-Access users receive the company’s Model One e-scooter delivered to their door within 72 hours of subscribing, according to the company. The flat $49 monthly fee covers maintenance and insurance for scooter theft or damage.

The company initially began testing its All-Access service in New York City and Los Angeles last year. Following the latest round of funding, the company plans to launch in Austin, Miami, Nashville, Phoenix, San Francisco and Seattle.

All told, the additional markets represent about 30 million potential new customers for Unagi.

The company intends to provide its riders with a safe and sustainable way to travel this spring as many cities across the United States consider reopening museums, bars, restaurants, theme parks and more.

“You’ll never need to wonder if your [scooter] is clean, fully charged, or if the last rider was in good health. It will be there when you need it — always,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement.

If your transportation plans end up changing while on the go, the Model One e-scooter is foldable and can easily fit inside a car trunk, according to the company.

Moving forward, Unagi aims to build out an infrastructure that can support scooter delivery anywhere in the U.S.

The latest round was led by the Ecosystem Integrity Fund and brings the company’s total amount of capital raised to $13.7 million.

Unagi plans to hire as it continues to scale. The company currently has three positions available on LinkedIn, including a regional sales manager, inside sales coordinator and growth marketing manager.

Additional investors Menlo Ventures, Broadway Angels and Gaingels participated in the round, among others.
