Byte Kitchen, a San Mateo restaurant technology company, announced Tuesday it pulled in $6 million in a funding round co-led by Crosslink Capital, Emergent Ventures and Kevin Mahaffey.

The company plans to use its fresh funds for technology investments and new hires. Currently, Byte Kitchen is hiring for six positions in its kitchen operations, engineering and people operations departments.

It also plans to open new Noshery storefronts, the first of which will be a second San Carlos location.

Byte Kitchen helps restaurants expand their footprint by licensing their brand and recipes in order to sell out of its Noshery eating halls. Similar to a ghost kitchen, Byte Kitchen manages all kitchen operations — including staffing and cooking — all in one facility. This gives restaurant owners the ability to scale their brands without having to invest in additional storefronts.

Byte Kitchen also doesn’t charge any fees, simply keeping a portion of sales revenue instead. It also allows customers the ability to mix and match orders from multiple restaurants with several eateries based in one location.

“Independent restaurants are the heart of local communities, and we started Byte Kitchen to amplify their reach across the nation. However, in a market saturated with ghost kitchens and virtual brands, we believe product quality is what will win in the long run,” Byte Kitchen CEO Divyang Arora said in a statement. “At Byte Kitchen, we’re committed to upholding the trust of our restaurant partners, from faithfully executing their recipes to maintaining strong relationships with customers.”

A ribbon-cutting event for Byte Kitchen’s second Noshery location in San Carlos will occur this Saturday at 11 a.m.
