Anthropic, creator of generative AI chatbot solution Claude, announced a new injection of venture funding. The Series E, spearheaded by Lightspeed, values the company at $61.5 billion. Anthropic’s latest round also saw participation from Bessemer, D1 Capital, Fidelity and other investors.

The raise coincides with the launch of Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude Code products. As a hybrid reasoning model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet shows improved coding and front-end web development capabilities over its previous iteration. Alongside the new model, Anthropic introduced Claude Code, a command line tool for agentic coding.

As the company strives to further improve its solutions’ coding abilities, Anthropic plans to invest heavily in its AI systems. The new money will also enable the expansion of its compute capacity, intensified research into mechanistic interpretability and alignment as well as accelerated international growth.
