A notable player in the AI space recently secured $2 billion in fresh funding. Co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, former chief scientist at OpenAI, Safe Superintelligence is a company focused on developing superintelligent AI technology that is intentionally safe for the humans using it, according to reporting by Tech Funding News.

The company has yet to commercially launch its product. With its tech still under development, SSI is working to ensure its systems incorporate alignment and control by design, rather than as a late additive. Its mission is to provide superintelligent AI that can be applied to benefit humanity in various sectors from healthcare to education.

In the meantime, SSI is focused on scaling research and development, growing its global operations from its Palo Alto and Tel Aviv offices and furthering its computing resources, the Tech Funding News article mentioned. SSI is backed by investors including Greenoaks Capital, Alphabet and NVIDIA. A partnership with Alphabet has equipped SSI with access to Google Cloud’s tensor processing units, enabling SSI to leverage modern AI hardware to fuel its development efforts. Backed by a total of $3 billion in venture capital, SSI is valued at $32 billion following its latest raise.
