The Communications Manager develops and executes policy-focused communications strategies on children’s online safety, privacy, AI, and digital equity. Responsibilities include writing statements, op-eds, press releases, briefs, speeches, and digital content; managing media relationships; preparing spokespeople; supporting advocacy campaigns; monitoring policy developments; and coordinating rapid responses with internal teams, advocates, and coalition partners.

Leads Common Sense Media’s external affairs and communications strategy, including narrative development, media relations, rapid response, major announcements, events, spokesperson duties, media training, and brand stewardship. Builds journalist relationships, secures high-impact coverage, elevates organizational experts, and translates complex research and policy issues into compelling public communications aligned with organizational goals.

Edits and develops AI- and technology-focused reports, articles, investigations, newsletters, interviews, podcasts, videos, and social content. Translates complex technical and academic material for broad audiences, ensures accuracy and editorial independence, fact-checks consequential claims, establishes editorial standards, and leads projects from concept through publication. Serves as a deputy to the Head of Public Engagement and helps set editorial priorities and maintain publishing quality.
