Our Growth Mindset (The Mission):

Think back on your time in school and a project or experience that got you fired up, curious, and motivated to try your best. Can you remember one? If you’re like us, there are some projects we remember decades later -- those times when we were so engaged in what we were doing that we couldn’t help but learn.

Seesaw is a learning platform that brings educators, students, and families together to deepen student learning. Teachers design and facilitate powerful learning experiences, students create, reflect, collaborate and make their learning visible, and families actively support and celebrate student learning. Seesaw is used by millions of K-12 students in over half the schools in the U.S.

The Curriculum (Your Role):

The Community Team at Seesaw supports educators at every stage of their Seesaw journey. We are looking for a Community Operations Associate to lead impactful community data projects that ladder to some of the most important business initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to own the data function within a key team at Seesaw. You will be responsible for building and managing multiple community data dashboards that track week over week movement and will be referenced by cross-functional teams.

You must get excited when looking at data and are eager to efficiently collect it, clean it up, organize it, and analyze it. You must feel comfortable navigating massive, complicated data sets and be excited to create filterable spreadsheets and easy-to-use, automated data systems. Seesaw’s data team is growing, so over time this role may report to a Data lead instead of a Community lead.

Your Classmates (The Team):

You will work closely with the Seesaw Community team and a community data analyst contractor.

Subject Matter (Your Responsibilities):

  • You will lead the charge across complicated data problems that haven’t been solved yet. You will be charting your own path, learning on your own, and leaning on previous data expertise to lead the data way at Seesaw.
  • You will turn massive, messy data sets into clean, organized, filterable, and navigable spreadsheets.
  • You will manage multiple Google Sheets, and quickly implement formulas to make clean up, organizing, filtering, and cross-checking a breeze.
  • You will build progress dashboards and growth reports that combine several data sets into a clear display of week over week movement and growth.
  • You will manage several unsolved data errors. You will be responsible for understanding complex systems, working within many limitations and constraints to ideate solutions, and lean on data tools to build simple automations.
  • You will create weekly data presentations that take your complicated data findings and distill them into charts and graphs that are easily digestible by your non-data savvy colleagues.

Prerequisites (The Requirements):

  • You are detail-oriented, organized, and you persevere when tackling a tricky data project. You are willing to experiment with new tools and try multiple approaches until you find a solution. You must also notice data discrepancies and troubleshoot your findings before sharing with teammates.
  • You have deep knowledge of Google Sheets, importing CSVs, cleaning data, and cross-checking data over multiple sources. You can create spreadsheets that allow for filtering, sorting, and analyzing trends.
  • You have proficiency with reference functions, import range, and know the difference between absolute and relative references in Google Sheets.
  • You can independently create and work with various Google Sheets functions such as v-lookups, count-if, unique, and combine functions to form nested formulas.
  • You can program in SQL and have extensive experience creating queries and pulling reports from a database such as AWS Athena or Rockset.
  • You have a can-do attitude! You will be navigating lots of uncharted data territory without much guidance. You will need to figure out a lot on your own and should be comfortable leading your own projects and determining your next steps.

Preferred Qualifications (Extracurriculars):

  • 3+ years as a data analyst or operations associate, creating and managing spreadsheets and building dashboards.
  • Experience at a fast-paced startup where things evolve and new information must be constantly considered.
  • Experience leading data initiatives and projects without much guidance from others.
  • Familiarity distilling complicated data findings into digestible presentations for colleagues (who are not data minded like you!)

Don't let the confidence gap get in the way of applying! We'd love to hear from you.
