Lead Data Science Engineer (Multiple Locations)
*Considering candidates in Santa Barbara, San Mateo, or US based remote*
We’re looking for a technical leader who can help shape how we collect and curate large-scale health datasets permissioned by our members in support of analytics. Our work lies at the intersection of many diverse fields including machine learning, signal processing, and epidemiology, and in this role you will be guiding team members on how to curate vast amounts of time series data from wearables, sensors, and other mobile data. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with both data engineering and data science, and would be leading a hybrid team with the mandate of creating a high quality data ecosystem within the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a team of highly skilled and creative engineers and scientists to curate datasets that support analytics application
- Partner with the core engineering teams to design scalable, maintainable, and intuitive data pipelines
- Develop expertise in novel methods for ingesting, curating, and maintaining mission critical health datasets used by research scientists, data scientists, and business intelligence analysts
- Invest in mentoring and growing a world class “Data Science” flavored engineering team
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- An aptitude for mentorship, communication, and team building specifically within groups of highly motivated, quantitative individuals
- An inquisitive, pragmatic engineering mindset that is delighted by building solutions that serve the needs of data scientists and analytics users
- Experience applying software patterns for dealing with distributed datasets containing both structured and unstructured data
- A high degree of proficiency in one of Python, Scala, or a related programming language commonly used for data engineering applications
- Proficiency working with structured and unstructured data in SQL (Spark SQL, Presto, SNOW SQL)
- The ability to multitask and drive forward multiple technical initiatives by formalizing business requirements into crisp technical implementations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with health data and working in a regulated space
- Experience with devops, systems, and/or security
- Experience working with wearable data or IoT data
