About us

Weave Grid builds software to make it cheaper and safer for utilities to serve electric vehicles, add renewable energy resources, and save customers money. Our mission is to drive rapid decarbonization in the global transport and power sectors by intelligently connecting electric vehicles to the grid.

We are currently in market with early utility clients, and we must rapidly build and deliver product improvements to serve existing customers and win new deals from our deep pipeline. As a rapidly growing company, we are building a thoughtful, capable team that can adapt with our rapidly evolving circumstances.

Industry context We are living through historic changes in the ways people use transportation - a sector that is now one of the largest and fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales are growing at over 60% a year, with vehicle manufacturers spending billions to get ready for an electric future. Boston Consulting Group estimates EVs will account for over half of all vehicle sales by 2030. Electric utilities see massive opportunities in this transformation, as the rise of EVs could drive more growth in energy demand over the next 10 years than any decade since the 1950s.

Larger EV fleets can also help support renewable energy sources on the grid. But to accommodate growth in EVs, utilities will need to make substantial investments in infrastructure and technology. Weave Grid's software helps meet the challenge of our transition to electrified transport.

Job description

On the way to achieving our ambitious climate impact goals, we're growing our utility client base rapidly. To deliver value for clients and make meaningful progress on reducing carbon emissions (from transportation and the grid), we must engage, delight, retain and shape the behavior of electric vehicle (EV) drivers.

In pursuit of these targeted driver experience (DX) outcomes, we have rolled out foundational features, starting with web (including mobile web), email and SMS interactions. Components released so far are lean and functional, based on extensive DX research and ongoing driver support engagement.

Following on our driver experience discoveries so far, it's now time to build our product design organization.

You have the chance to cultivate this critical new function for our company and to meaningfully impact metrics that are foundational to WeaveGrid's success - like driver enrollment in cleaner, smarter vehicle charging programs and total vehicle energy consumption shaped over time.

You will be establishing all core product design practices from the ground up, from user testing strategies to design sprints and delivery. You'll have the resources you need to be successful, with responsibilities growing rapidly with the company.

Part of your initial efforts will likely address several urgent next steps we've identified. You'll drive the product forward toward on each of these:

1. Enhance and simplify EV drivers' experience with our application, through which we schedule their vehicle charging and transparently communicate / interact to maintain driver trust and engagement

2. Maintain a design system that allows effective engagement with drivers in a variety of co-branded partnership contexts (for utilities and potentially EV manufacturers in the future), and

3. Formalize and accelerate our product design process - from ideation through driver testing to release.

While we hope you'll share our team's passion for the sustainable energy transition, no previous experience in the energy sector is required.

Core Responsibilities

Dive deeply into driver feedback and expressed needs (from collected research and your own direct conversations) to conceive essential features and product release goals

Prototype, test and deliver new features

Maintain consistent abstractions and grow our component and pattern library

Develop thoughtful design assets, covering conceivable driver experiences, to empower engineering teams

Evangelize design-thinking across the organization and to our partners and customers

Document product/design decision making through foundational deliverables (e.g. roadmaps, sitemaps, user flows, etc.)

Refine team understanding of key EV driver personas, as well as their key motivations

About you

You design for impact - to delight users while transparently shaping their behaviors to achieve product success.

You have an insatiable desire to see your designs working in production with users and triggering insights and feedback.

You bring taste and discerning design judgment, but always favor simplicity and usability over aesthetic refinement.

You're structured and methodical in your work, developing artifacts that are easy for your partner stakeholders to understand and build from.

You care about quality and product details, but scope work to ensure critical features are done and delivered to meet strategic product milestones. Beyond minimum viability standards, you're not afraid to release less polished functionality where testing and discovery can help you make better decisions about product direction.

You want to apply your talents to meaningfully address risks from climate change. In particular, you share the WeaveGrid team's commitment to achieving outcomes that support the shift to electrified transport and a decarbonized electric grid.

To meet the needs of this role, you will bring

Clear and succinct communication practices - verbally and in writing

Empathy for our EV driver users and the goals of utility stakeholder partners

Outstanding visual and interaction design skills

Passion for solving complex user interaction challenges

Demonstrated ability to help your teams navigate ambiguity, collaborate effectively and establish a shared vision

Qualifications

Deep familiarity with Figma

5+ years of experience with end-to-end consumer product design

Interest in diving into new frontiers of user behavior

Culture and mission Beyond your core skills and track record, you are someone who will expand the culture and cumulative wisdom of the team as a whole. This can take many forms - relevant past projects, hard-won perspective from personal history, an unusual or adjacent skillset, a motivating passion, and so on. We are whole individuals, not just functional role-fillers, and we value everything that you can bring to the team.

Finally, you should be strongly motivated by Weave Grid's mission. Energy and transportation expertise are not necessary, but it is important that you are passionate about tackling the climate crisis head on, by improving societal and environmental health.

Compensation and location

We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. Compensation will include competitive salary, equity, and benefits. Weave Grid is based in San Francisco but is open to considering remote candidates in the US for some roles.
