Director, Data Analysis - Capital One Shopping - (Remote - Eligible)

The ideal candidate is resourceful, motivated, and self-sufficient, with demonstrated hands-on success spearheading cross-functional projects that drive the growth and success of a business.
As Capital One continues to mature its Business Analysis tools and capabilities, we are seeking a dynamic, high-performing Director, Data Analytics to lead adoption of Big Data tools, complex data analysis, and other developing data technologies, both proprietary and open source. We are seeking someone who can take charge, think big, and deliver on their commitments.
On any given day you will be:

  • Providing strategic leadership on large cross-functional horizontal initiatives
  • Creating leading-edge data products that uncover opportunities for improvement
  • Leading business analysis that helps to identify, improve, and accelerate our highest leverage product and business opportunities
  • Partnering with Product and Engineering feature teams to incorporate and optimize advanced data analysis and modeling into the systems drive their experiences
  • Driving data source and tool innovations based on stakeholder data needs, including adoption of Big Data technologies and development of a program to train and enhance associate skill-sets
  • Leading governance of our data assets, including development of a governance plan and structure
  • Overseeing data analysis activities to partner groups, incorporating novel monitoring, reporting, and data visualization techniques
  • Partnering with diverse stakeholders (from Analysts to Executives)
  • Serving as the primary business partner to the data engineering team and resident data expert to help uplevel abilities within our Product Management and Business Analyst teams
  • Actively championing the usage and adoption of data tools and solutions across the Data Analyst community


Key accountabilities:

  • Partner with various engineering and enterprise functions in adopting and informing data flow standards across ingestion, transformation, access and publishing
  • Driving data source and tool innovations based on stakeholder data needs, including adoption of cloud native technologies
  • Development of a program to train and enhance associate skill sets and actively championing the usage and adoption of data tools and solutions across the entire RDB Data Analyst community
  • Lead the ongoing migration from an on-premise implementation to a cloud based (AWS) implementation
  • Strategic orientation in their ability to define roadmaps in an incremental way to support business goals


This position will be in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment where you will be handling multiple concurrent projects while working independently and in teams. An ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities in addition to communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Prior experience creating organization roadmaps and driving strategy execution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus at least 9 years of experience in data analytics, or Master's Degree plus at least 7 years of experience in data analytics, or PhD plus at least 4 years of experience in data analytics
  • At least 5 years of Professional Data Analysis experience
  • At least 5 years of People Management experience
  • At least 2 years of Big Data technology experience
  • At least 2 years of Data Visualization experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 10+ years of Professional Data Analysis experience
  • 5+ years of Big Data experience (AWS and Spark)
  • 5+ years of cloud native (AWS) data processing experience
  • 5+ years of Process Management experience
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Python
  • 5+ years of Data Governance experience
  • 2+ years of experience with streaming data technologies (Kafka, Flink, Spark streaming)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $246,900 - $281,800 for Director, Data Analysis
Remote (Regardless of Location): $197,500 - $225,400 for Director, Data Analysis
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
