Backend Software Engineer, Distributed Systems and Node.js
Webflow is a visual web development platform that empowers non-coders to create incredible experiences for the web.
We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer to help transform Webflow into foundational building blocks that will enable internal and 3rd party developers to extend and multiply Webflow’s value in a visual-first, scalable and secure way. As a Backend software engineer, you'll help build scalable infrastructure that support this platform initiative.
About the role
- Location: San Francisco HQ or remote (anywhere in the Americas)

As a Backend Software Engineer, you’ll
- Work on building new features and refactoring efforts
- Design and implement scalable services in Node.js and AWS Lambda
- Work on a highly technical platform that empowers hundreds of thousands of people, and serves millions of page views an hour
- Cross-collaborate with software engineers, product managers, designers and QA analysts in an autonomous, supportive team environment
- Build and maintain unit and integration tests (Jest and Cypress)
- Support others on your team in a technical capacity
- Receive support designed to help you grow as an impactful engineer and a healthy human being

And this isn’t just a philosophical bent: we actually give you 4 hours a week (10% of the work week) to tackle passion projects directly related to Webflow.
About you
You’ll thrive as a Backend Software Engineer if you have:
- Have contributed to building scalable, multi-tenant environments
- Have previous experience in either Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
- Have previous experience in JavaScript and/or Node.js
- Have previous experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
- Have previous experience with Kafka or other event streams (Kinesis, SQS, etc)
- Have built and worked on complex distributed systems or microservices
- A deep understanding of design patterns — and an even better knowledge of when to apply them
- Are very comfortable behind a Linux terminal
