YOUR MISSION

As the Community Engineering Director, you will grow our business by managing and mentoring a team of managers and engineers to build and integrate tools and features that help us expand globally. 

MURAL is transforming how teams put imagination to work by making it easy for everyone to collaborate visually from anywhere. The community team supports, educates, and empowers our members by connecting them with peers and partners. Members share ideas and best practices through a variety of templates, learning, and other content focused on unlocking the power of remote collaboration.

You will be responsible for our community forum, help and learning center, and template experiences. You will also enable new opportunities for community members to monetize their MURAL skills with experts on demand. You will build and manage a small team of engineers to own in-house and off-the-shelf solutions. Your passion for learning and collaboration will shine through in the work of you and your team.

In this role you will:

  • Hire and lead a team of excellent Engineering Managers 
  • Support a team of engaged engineers
  • Work with other MURAL leaders to design and drive the plan for MURAL’s engineering vision and culture in line with the company values.
  • Empower the engineering team to achieve a high level of technical productivity, reliability and simplicity.
  • Own and deliver key projects that advance our community efforts
  • Work with 3rd party vendors and contract developers to implement solutions.
  • Identify key stakeholders and mediate between the team and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of the MURAL’s engineering management team.
  • Thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility, making hard decisions and tradeoffs and ensuring great information flow.
  • Work closely with product management, analysts, architects, engineering leads, and business stakeholders to define requirements, guide product and architectural vision, lead key technical and design discussions, and prioritize delivery efforts.

YOUR PROFILE

The top candidate will have the following skills:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or relevant and demonstrable practical experience
  • 3+ years experience managing engineering managers
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a passion for engineering best practices and having an impact on tech problems at scale 
  • Demonstrated track record of success growing and supporting managers
  • Experience in community and learning efforts
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to lead by example and help teammates do their best work
  • Ability to act as a mediator for your team.
  • Ability to work independently from a remote location.
