With no official support, thousands of user scripts and self-identified bots run against our API and enrich the experience Redditors have on our platform. With effort and resources, we can take our user’s creative energy and turn it into so much more: a developer platform that will allow third party developers to run code on Reddit.

We are looking for a head of developer platform who will bring a holistic vision for where Reddit should evolve its API and developer toolkit. As a newly-created role, we provide a tremendous opportunity to transform Reddit from a content platform to an experience and content platform. 

As our head of developer platform, you will lead the articulation and delivery of our developer platform strategy. This role is a really big deal. Details are below. 

The role 

• Reporting to the VP of Engineering you will be the owner and driver behind the Developer Platform. This includes: roadmaps and delivering on outcomes.
• Hire, lead, mentor and retain a high performing team of engineers. 
• Collaborate with engineering and product leaders to set a long-term strategy.
• Manage budgeting, headcount planning, and working with cross-functional partners (e.g., legal, community, PR, etc.) 
• Champion the work and accelerate our evolution towards a democratized open platform anyone can build on top of.

What You Bring

• At your core you are driven by the thought of making a difference for other developers and in our users’ lives. 
• You have successfully built and scaled large teams in both start-up and established development organizations at a Director+ level.
• Great communicator, great issue resolver. You know how to give good news, bad news and listen.
• Your track record includes bringing new products to market and maturing them.  
• Significant (> 10 yrs) experience building and architecting full-stack solutions. 
• You are a leader: internally, you are able to influence and engage; externally, you are capable of recruiting the best talent. 
• You may not be coding today but you own and are able to mediate critical architectural decisions. Your engineers feel confident in your abilities. 
• You like the challenge of simplifying complex systems, and you always consider the big picture even when acting locally.
