The Guest Experience team within Growth Engineering has the mission of helping millions of guest users find relevant content and start a rich journey towards becoming a Redditor!

Search experience optimization is one of the strongest opportunities for bringing in new users and the guest experience is critical in helping them continue to explore and engage with Reddit. Reddit’s users have created posts, discussions, and communities covering a diversity of topics. The huge volume of content creates an opportunity to grow our user base by connecting search users with engaging content.

What You'll Do:

Search optimization at Reddit involves a breadth of interesting work to help our guest users find relevant content and start a rich journey. We use data instrumentation and experimentation to gain insights, backend services to create relevant content connections, partner integrations to highlight AMAs and other Reddit gems, and our web platform to provide guests the best initial experience possible. Our team touches a number of backend and frontend sub-systems.

As a software engineer on this team, you will help us build, scale and maintain user facing products, large scale systems, services, and tools all of which have a direct impact on the lives of our users (external & internal) and the success of our business.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience building clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Expertise in at least one backend programming language ie Python, Go, Java
  • Experience with large-scale distributed real-time systems
  • Curiosity and ability to be autonomous to figure out what's important.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with a service-oriented team.
