What is the Staff Software Engineer - DevOps Role?

We are looking for a stellar Staff Software Engineer - DevOps to drive amazing results throughout our operations. You will be critical to our ability to deploy cloud infrastructure and application code quickly and to manage it effectively. You’ll be working across multiple teams from application engineers to platform engineers and data scientists in order to automate the deployment, configuration and management of cloud infrastructure in AWS. Ideally you have a blend of development and operational experience and are passionate about automating operational processes and managing critical systems with zero downtime.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design, implement and support our DevOps Infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership to a small to medium sized team of engineers and working alongside them to define and advance our project goals
  • Plan and deploy high availability solutions for DevOps services
  • Install, configure, manage and extend a variety of software systems including software for version control, continuous integration, continuous deployment, performance data collection and analysis, systems monitoring and more
  • Automate the compilation, continuous integration, testing, packaging, and distribution of multiple software components 
  • Monitor and improve operations performance and stability
  • Investigate failures, fix them and execute root-cause analysis
  • Engineer systems and tools to support the build, integration and verification of complex software systems
  • Work closely with developers to tailor tools and solutions for rapidly evolving needs
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, suggest, and implement new technologies or services to maximize operations efficiency and reliability

Your background and skills:

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience in DevOps Engineering working with large scale production systems
  • Experience serving as a tech lead for a small DevOps team
  • Experience deploying and scaling high traffic services in AWS across multiple environments
  • Experience implementing and managing CI/CD with Jenkins, Nexus, Docker and AWS ECS clusters
  • Experience managing MySql, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Databricks instances and data migration
  • Cloud monitoring technologies including AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, New Relic and ELK
  • Experience in troubleshooting server logs and network, infrastructure issues
  • Extremely comfortable with Linux, shell-scripting, and git
  • Expert in performing and automating systems administration tasks using Ansible
  • Experience with Terraform 
  • BS/MS in computer science or related technical field OR equivalent experience
