The Director/Sr. Director of Credit & Underwriting will be responsible for building the credit and underwriting function at TripActions. The team is responsible for providing thorough, objective analysis of the financial condition and credit worthiness of corporate customers, evaluating market conditions, making credit decisions, performing annual reviews, and managing the overall portfolio of assigned credits. This role will report to the VP of Finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build the team and function from the ground up!
  • Hire and develop a high performance credit team with a focus on driving excellence, teamwork, and engagement, both internally and externally
  • Be a seasoned senior underwriting executive with deep and relevant industry expertise across both domestic and cross-border credit
  • Manage the workflow of underwriting requests for credit extensions and annual reviews
  • Set guidelines for operations and go to market teams for engaging customers with respect to credit and underwriting
  • Manage preparation of monthly financial memo reviews of existing borrowers to track compliance and health of accounts
  • Be a partner to the capital markets team to evaluate working capital needs and assist in capital raising where necessary
  • Lead the documentation process for both new customers and credit extensions/increases of existing customers, including coordination with customer success managers
  • Manage requests from regulators, auditors, and other stakeholders where relevant

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in credit underwriting, portfolio and/ or risk management 
  • Experience with both large multinational financial services organizations and fast-paced startup environments preferred
  • Experience building a team of commercial credit underwriters and analysts
  • Motivated self-starter who enthusiastically contributes to the broader team goals
  • Impeccable technical aptitude with demonstrated pragmatic business judgement
  • Deep industry and credit expertise in his/her assigned industry vertical
  • Subject matter expert on tools, services, and systems ecosystem for credit evaluation
  • Proficiency in complex legal documentation guidelines and requirements
  • Knowledgeable in finance theory and its application in the credit underwriting process
  • Reaches decisions quickly and in a structured manner
  • Bias towards challenging the status quo
  • Strong quantitative skills and systems aptitude
