Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building  a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.

Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!

Above anything else, you care about developer experience. You know that a great product is only a piece of the puzzle, and that what makes a truly great developer-focused company is  how you talk to, engage with, and support developers. You’ve found your calling at the intersection of engineering, community, developer enablement, and running great teams. You know what great Developer Relations looks like, how it is measured, and what best practices are hard to measure but essential.

You’re ready to devote the next part of your career to an exciting and critically important developer product, and know how to create and foster a web of people and connections to spread the word about it.

Your goal is to build the best developer experience on the planet, earning the love of developers everywhere. We'll take your guidance on the right KPIs, team, relationships, and content to accomplish that.

  • Build and lead a developer relations function from the ground up including hiring the right profile of team members, creating KPIs to measure team effectiveness, and developing a strategic plan for the function.
  • Create a technical content roadmap across videos, blogs, demos, and sample apps, etc., that you believe will attract and help developers to learn more about Retool’s vision and product. And then collaborate with the Growth and Demand Gen team to create a distribution plan and measure the effectiveness of the content created.
  • Speak at and participate in select conferences to educate the developer market on Retool.
  • Be active on social media, slacks, discords and other relevant communities and participate in developer conversations, championing Retool’s point of view.
  • Be the voice of the Retool developer community and champion their feedback and concerns back to stakeholders in product and marketing.
  • Collaborate with the Content, PMM, and Comms teams to develop ideas and find contributors to create media moments for the company.
  • Keep a close pulse on trends in software—from internal tools to languages, frameworks and databases— and be ready to form Retool’s position and perspective.
  • Be a trusted advisor to company leadership, marketing and product  teams on developer experience.

  • Experience building and growing Developer Relations teams. You have a great network, and creative ways to find and recognize potential hires. You know how to keep the team focused and add value to the business in a measurable way.
  • Experience in the backend Javascript ecosystems. Ideally you already have a personal network and brand in one of these communities.
  • Deep empathy for developers and a passion for helping them move their projects and careers forward.
  • Opinionated approaches to specific technical knowledge areas that relate to Retool like React, Node, Django, Rails, , etc. that allows you to speak authoritatively on Retool adjacent topics.
  • Experience working with go-to-market teams.
  • A demonstrated ability to get stuff done. In an ideal world, you’ve worked in a fast-growing company, and know what we should be doing today, and in a year and two as the function scales.
  • Great communication skills: you’ll be the face of Retool to developers and will have a huge impact on how developers perceive the Retool brand.
