About Our Role:

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Global Payroll Manager is responsible for processing and overseeing payroll for over 300 employees globally, including over 270 employees in the U.S. across 10+ states and 30 employees in International markets across seven countries (and growing). You will be the primary person responsible for processing the U.S. payroll through ADP and liaising with our global provider for International payrolls. You will review and analyze each payroll to ensure accuracy and proper compliance with local rules and regulations, and act as the primary point of contact for our employee base regardless of region. You will be responsible for identifying process improvement to allow us to scale and optimize our internal control environment, as well as identify and solve for root cause issues when necessary. This position requires strong attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and communicate key findings. We are looking for an exceptional team player who has a strong understanding of payroll, payroll compliance, payroll systems and strives to improve processes in collaboration with cross-functional team members to achieve scale. 

You will:

  • Lead and own the global payroll strategy aligned with the organization’s needs.
  • Ensure accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing for a number of entities.
  • Partner with third party payroll providers to provide strategic direction on business needs and issues related to payroll. 
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service to employees who have questions regarding their pay, deductions, paid leave balances and other payroll processes. 
  • Serve as liaison between employee and third-party providers. Manage issue resolution process with third party providers and other key payroll stakeholders.
  • Work closely with third party Payroll providers to ensure that all monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax filings are met. Ensure all local statutory payroll and fringe benefit reporting requirements are met.
  • Analyze and audit internal controls and reconciliations to ensure accuracy in payroll output. Independently identify challenges and create/implement recommended solutions to build efficient processes while taking full ownership of process improvements.
  • Lead the documentation of global processes and procedures and ensure that all internal controls are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and international tax and wage & hour laws, regulations or guidelines, including payroll tax registrations. This includes assisting with payroll related audits (e.g. 401(k), worker's compensation, ESD) and year end filings (e.g. P11Ds, ERS, ESS) and supporting external financial statement audits, as needed. 
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and reconciliations for payroll related accounts and participate in our month end close process.
  • Build partnerships with internal partners in People Operations/Recruiting/Finance/Legal to facilitate payroll processes, including processing on-demand checks, benefits, and withholdings (e.g. leave of absence, employee benefits, 401k, FSA, etc.)
  • Define service level agreements, establish key performance indicators, build metrics reporting capabilities and monitor adherence to these standards.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6+ years experience with U.S. payroll in a multi-state environment and minimum 300 employee base
  • Minimum 3+ years in global payroll experience as single point of contact for a minimum of four countries outside the U.S.
  • Minimum 2+ experience in leading the end to end payroll process for a multinational organization
  • Previous experience within a multinational start-up and management of rapid international growth
  • Experienced in reviewing and implementing payroll process controls and policy governance
  • Experience with international taxation and processing and an awareness of statutory legislation and procedures
  • Knowledge of global payroll requirements with preference given to experience with Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and Canada
  • Experienced leader of people, driving high performance, with a collaborative working style
  • Excellent communication skills across all mediums and at all levels of stakeholder
  • Skilled in developing strong working relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to prioritize and to work to very tight deadlines
  • Effective problem solver with strong analytical and project management skills
  • Execution focused and detail oriented
  • Excellent communication, organizational, prioritization, analytical, process flows and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with ADP Workforce strongly preferred
  • Experience with Workday a plus
  • Excellent Excel skills (pivot tables, nested functions) - must be able to audit/troubleshoot formulas
