Reporting to the Chief Legal & People Officer Delida Costin, the VP of People will be responsible for all things relating to Grove’s people, with the goal of helping employees successfully meet the challenges of an increasingly complex business. S/he will serve as a trusted advisor and partner to senior executives across the business, supporting business strategies by building capacity through mission alignment, forward movement and development, continuous learning, improved processes, and a search for simplicity. This person will oversee recruitment, performance, culture, and compensation. S/he will enforce and evaluate legally compliant human resources policies, procedures, and best practices.


This person’s first tasks will be to identify and implement long-range strategic talent management goals for a workforce that includes everyone from warehouse associates to engineers to retail professionals. S/he will also serve as a mentor and coach to the current People Team and help evaluate & scale their current systems & tools.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Harness the potential in all of Grove’s people to achieve the Company’s long-term mission and goals. Drive initiatives and processes to ensure the workforce is a highly motivated, loyal team of professionals.
  • Design, develop, and launch enterprise-level best-in-class compensation and career development programs that are consistent across the Company. 
  • Align the People function by identifying and implementing clear key performance indicators. 
  • Build, train, and mentor the People team as it scales activities across talent acquisition, employee engagement, employee relations, organizational development, compensation, and benefits. 
  • Know the law to ensure industry-standard compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements. 
  • Build and maintain the Company’s staffing budget, as well as the budget for the People team. 

ABOUT YOU

  • At least ten years of experience within People Operations/HR at a growth company. 
  • Track record of building programs and policies enabling an organization to scale. 
  • Experience with large hourly workforces in addition to traditional tech backgrounds.
  • Significant breadth of knowledge of and experience using commonly used organizational development concepts, practices and procedures. 
  • Experience in performance review design and execution, practicing fairness and consistency in reviews and compensation plans. 
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating cross-organizationally to ensure mission and values are present in initiatives. 
  • Familiar with local, state & federal labor laws in California. 
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred. 
  • Leads by listening and persevering until positive actions move towards a resolution.
  • Innovative leader who constantly drives for results – a disruptor who thinks bigger, beyond incremental improvement. 
  • Courage to propose solutions others are reluctant to address, act in the face of resistance, and advocate for the best interests of the organization. 
  • Possess sophisticated negotiating, influencing, and project management skills. 
  • Excellent context-shifting skills: from strategic to tactical, from one complex matter to another, from executive audience to junior audience. 
  • Resilient and comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. 
  • Approachable, genuine and able to have fun!
