At LightStep, our mission is to deliver confidence at scale for those who develop,operate,and rely upon today’s powerful software applications. Our work is founded upon our original experiences building Dapper (Google’s distributed tracing solution) and Monarch (Google’s high availability metrics solution). Since then we’ve continued our mission to empower developers by creating the next generation of monitoring tools for today’s cloud native world and aim to aid developers by giving them the ability to view their system processes like never before. As part of our internship program, You’ll take part as an active member of our software engineering team and help power the technology that clients like Lyft, Twilio, and Yext rely on. In addition, you will be working on developing product features and systems while receiving mentorship from top talent within the distributed tracing industry. In the past, interns have built critical portions of LightStep’s technology and have gone on to join our team. You will quickly develop your skills and learn a lot in a short time. You’d be a great fit if…

• You're enrolled in a computer science or engineering program similar to a bachelor's degree. (We also take master's and Ph.D. program interns!). You must be finishing your program (i.e. eligible for full time hire) in 2020 or 2021.
• You want your work to have an immediate impact on those you're working with.
• You balance self-motivation and independence well with a desire to learn.

Bonus points if…

• You have coding experience with either Go or React.js.
• You have experience with Docker, distributed systems, or distributed databases like DynamoDB, Riak, or Spanner.
• You've built a cool project you're excited to share with us.
• You have excellent communication skills. You're able to explain something you've built to a fellow engineer or to a marketing team member equally clearly.
