At Volta, we’re on a mission to accelerate the adoption of the electric vehicle. Volta creates city-wide electric vehicle charging networks in major metropolitan areas. Our charging networks are free-to-use, free to property partners, and monetized through brand sponsorships and digital media content.

The Director of Product Marketing will work closely with the product teams to develop go to market strategies and drive overall product marketing plans. In this position you will become the expert on our markets and customers. You will be a key figure in the organization that teams turn to for product knowledge and customer insights.

A diverse business, Volta has three distinct customers and product programs. First, Volta is serving the electric vehicle community by delivering seamless and simple charging experiences that delight. Second, Volta seeks strategically placed real estate partners interested in providing best-in-class electric vehicle charging to their customers. Finally, and central to Volta’s business, we provide these services freely by partnering with forward-thinking brands who advertise on the displays of our charging stations. The Director of Product Marketing will run a program that bridges these worlds and optimizes our product marketing plans to meet these customer’s diverse needs.

The foundation of an effective strategy is solid information that is easy to understand and monitor. The Director of Product Marketing will drive quantitative and qualitative research that informs the Product organization’s decision making. They will also be responsible for developing key performance indicators that measure the success of our products and allow the organization to adjust course when needed. The Director of Product Marketing will be the source of information about our competitors, the products they’re bringing to market, and how Volta’s products would best be positioned as a result. These insights will drive the messaging and narratives that the greater Marketing team will leverage across all platforms.

As a hub of product and customer insights you will work cross-departmentally to develop strategies that drive demand. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, but working closely with leaders across the organization, the Director of Product Marketing will have a huge impact on Volta and the opportunity to drive meaningful change in the world of electric vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Volta’s first-ever Product Marketing program from the ground up.
  • Lead the go to market planning for Volta’s suite of products aimed at electric vehicle drivers, real estate owners and advertisers.
  • Run Volta’s customer research and insights program to identify and segment target customers.
  • Map and optimize the customer journey.
  • Develop pricing, packaging, and promotion strategies.
  • Define customer requirements and become the voice of the customer within the organization.
  • Become an expert on Volta’s competitors and their products. Identify opportunities for Volta’s products and services to obviate our competitors.
  • Oversee the development of product messaging and content across platforms.
  • Work closely with Product to develop timelines and ensure that the Marketing team is aligned.
  • Identify marketing opportunities alongside Product and drive high-impact product launches.
  • Own the product naming architecture and process from start to finish.
  • Partner with Communications to craft Volta’s corporate communications strategy to drive awareness and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the sales teams to develop presentations, email campaigns, promotions and lead nurturing programs.
  • Work closely with Customer Experience to monitor product feedback and improve overall customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in product marketing
  • Deep experience in managing product launches
  • Exceptional at developing effective customer research and insights programs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once while operating against tight deadlines]
  • Record of working effectively with diverse cross-functional teams
  • Experience within one, or more, of the following industries: electric vehicles, advertising, media sales
  • Superb writing skills, attention to detail and ability to make cogent arguments
  • Experience with the latest marketing tools in generating customer insights and demand (analytics, digital marketing, online surveys, etc.)
  • Experience working with engineering teams and the ability to translate from customers to engineers (and vice versa)
  • Results driven and analytical approach to developing product marketing goals
  • Experience with trademarking and working with legal on product features and liability
  • Problem solver with a talent for approaching complex challenges with a positive outlook
