As Segment’s Head of Commercial, you will head up the transactional team for Segment’s small but growing Legal Team. In this role, you’ll work across the business, with a particular focus on partnering with Go To Market functions to provide strategic, business-oriented legal guidance on a wide variety of issues. 

What you’ll do: 

  • Overall responsibility for Segment’s commercial legal matters
  • Train, mentor, and manage other members of the commercial team
  • Partner with Sales leadership to ensure efficient and effective legal support for commercial transactions of all shapes and sizes
  • Provide strategic advice on design, implementation and evolution of partnership programs and associated agreements
  • Evolve and manage education, information, and training programs for the sales organization on negotiation best practices and on relevant legal issues
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across organization to ensure agreements are consistent with internal policies and processes
  • Advise internal clients regarding legal issues, including identifying, managing, and communicating risks and opportunities in commercial transactions 
  • Structure, draft and negotiate a broad range of inbound supplier agreements, including software and SaaS, professional services and outsourcing, IT infrastructure, marketing and advertising technology, and various supplier agreements
  • Provide legal and strategic business advice as we evolve our programs, products and offerings

You’re a great fit if you…

  • You have 15+ years of experience practicing law in the technology space, including deep experience in building and scaling support for sales transactions and other Go To Market activities
  • You thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment in which your role is constantly evolving
  • You have impeccable legal and business judgment and can quickly risk-assess and prioritize
  • You have excellent presence and proven ability to influence
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and flexible
  • You have an ability to understand business needs and partner with internal clients and outside groups to find creative solutions to complex problems 
  • You have strong written/oral communication skills, and in particular, excel at communicating complex issues
  • You enjoy collaborating with no ego in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • You are open to travel as and when required.
  • You have extensive in-house experience 
  • You have a JD, are admitted to the California Bar, and have an excellent academic record
