About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Head of Risk who can build and inspire a team, and lead the evolution of our Risk Management strategy and frameworks. You will play a key role in Opendoor, building critical systems that identify risk trends and exposures at an enterprise and portfolio level. As the Head of Risk, you will:
- Be responsible for holistic risk management frameworks, driving a strong enterprise risk culture, clear risk ownership, and an environment that will accelerate growth trajectories and fundamental company performance
- Partner with senior stakeholders across the finance and investment teams to influence and make strategic risk decisions
- Drive an independent research agenda
- Own the risk management strategy and frameworks, while performing oversight of holistic risk management activities, including; risk identification, stress testing, risk-based capital, portfolio/risk analysis, economic forecasting, and enterprise-wide risk management reporting
- Advise senior management on framework improvements to further improve the organization's ability to manage risks
- Build and lead a team of quantitatively driven risk professionals
We’re looking for teammates who have:
- 10+ years experience in risk management, and/or quantitative asset management, preferably in illiquid assets
- 5+ years of management experience, including managing top-tier research scientists
- A Ph.D. or MS in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Math, Sciences, Engineering)
- Expert knowledge of a scientific computing language (such as R or Python) and SQL
- Track record of being entrepreneurial and self-directed, with success in being able to take a conceptual business challenge from an initial set of facts and hypotheses to real, practical solutions
- Experience working closely with and counseling senior business leaders with the objective of being a trusted advisor
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and interest in the future of real estate and shaping an industry through one of its major stakeholders
- Managed complexity and led multiple projects with an unrelenting focus and prioritization
