The Managing Director role is critical to the success of our business as we expand our portfolio and operations. You will lead the charge on designing, building, and directing Lyric’s Real Estate team. In partnership with our Executive Team, you will define and interrate on Lyric’s real estate strategy, holding the team accountable for performance at every stage of the deal cycle. You are a leader that celebrates wins, learns from losses, and optimizes our processes accordingly. You will be a key player in positioning Lyric as a thought leader in the industry and will foster deep relationships with the key players in our space. This role is perfect for an entrepreneurial leader that thrives in a dynamic, fast moving startup environment and has a willingness to participate “in the weeds” to reach our business goals. 

Challenge

  • Manage, build, and develop a team of real estate professionals ranging from Associates to Vice Presidents of Real Estate. 
  • Define and optimize our near term and long term real estate strategy, including cross functional input gathering and socialization, OKR development, and success criteria 
  • Manage senior team members to reliably deliver on their production goals and manage deals according to our internal processes
  • Drive the development of our partnership strategy, driving the team to execute the strategy and foster these relationships
  • Build Lyric’s brand awareness through outreach strategies, positioning us as an industry thought leader and representing the company at various speaking engagements / industry events. 
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Executive team meetings, championing Real Estate team initiatives and providing visibility into progress against our goals, exploiting opportunities for performance improvements
  • Assist our VPs on deals as needed, with heavy involvement on larger deals / strategic partnerships 

Foundation

  • 12+ years of experience in Commercial Real Estate and Development with 5+ years in a Senior Leadership capacity. You have a track record of hiring and developing talent from a variety of backgrounds and seniority. 
  • Preferred experience working with large scale multifamily assets
  • Proven experience successfully leading high performing sales and business development teams within the real estate industry, setting up the foundation for scale from an early stage (hiring criteria, playbooks, comp plans, territory segmentation, etc.) 
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written. You can clearly and concisely communicate an idea or problem and inspire a group of individuals 
  • Experience scaling a portfolio of access across multiple markets throughout the United States, international expansion experiences is preferred
  • Skilled in performance management practices, setting goals and holding teams accountable for meeting/exceeding targets, knowing how to coach individuals with varying levels of expertise

Interview 

  • Discovery call with Lyric’s Head of talent to overview the role and answer initial queries
  • Conversation with our Co-Founder and President to calibrate around alignment of role to candidate’s desired career path, as well as cultural compatibility. This is a great time to dive into the current state of and the goals for our Real Estate team. 
  • Conversation with our CEO, Andrew Kitchell to learn about the past, present and future of the business and discuss the goals for the organization, as well as discussing Lyric’s leadership standards. 
  • In person meetings with key stakeholders from both the Real Estate team as well as the broader business to discuss (among other things!) Real Estate development experience, driving an effective business development function, strategy design, leadership philosophies, cultural values alignment, etc. 
  • A final in-person meeting with additional members of the Real Estate team, executive team members, and close cross-functional partners.
