Sr. Manager, Category Innovation 

At Wish, we believe in making affordable products available to everyone. As a leading global, mobile, e-commerce marketplace that sells a wide variety of affordable products to consumers around the world, we are committed to consistent innovation and quality improvement of the products in our marketplace. Although items ship directly from merchants, and our prices are typically 60-90% less than other retailers, we are energized by using purchasing data, customer feedback and volume purchasing power to deliver additional value by improving the quality of products, as well as the selling & buying experience for our merchant partners & consumers. 

The Category Innovation Manager owns this opportunity at Wish. Leveraging their deep expertise within product categories such as apparel, electronics or automotive, they will drive continuous innovation & product improvement across their category within the Wish marketplace. They will leverage consumer trends, habits, purchasing data & feedback to drive product improvements while employing their deep experience of on / off shore product manufacturing to establish relationships and generate business partnerships that drive value for our merchants & consumers. In short, drive value by creating higher quality products that consumers love.

The Category innovation Manager will be responsible for the following:

Category Management

  • Be the category expert. Be knowledgeable of category performance and strategy for your category, based on a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential. Use that knowledge to deliver product features that resonate with Wish’s end customer.
  • Provide your knowledge of customer-centric retailing principles.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of consumer and customer needs, competitors and category trends. Have a keen eye for gaps in product offerings and the innovative mindset to fill them.
  • Own P&L line items for new product lines, recommending marketing investment, pricing strategies, and trade programs in order to meet financial launch hurdles and deliver optimum enterprise value. own a sizable portion of a fast-growing category P&L while also driving large scale, high visibility projects across the Wish marketplace
  • Keep current with costing challenges and understand pricing in order to develop products that achieve appropriate retail price
  • Engage, interact and collaborate with senior sales, marketing, trade, shopper marketing and category management peers
  • Provide ongoing trend analysis (business performance and drivers) to seize value-creating opportunities as well as take corrective action as necessary
  • Review historical data of category performance, balance projected forecasts and execute sales initiatives to meet and exceed set metrics.
  • Translate vision and strategy into explicit plans and action.

Market Intelligence

  • Act as a market intelligence provider regarding categories; anticipate strategic opportunities and keep key stakeholders informed
  • Stay attune to the eCommerce community and product trends to help identify new product directions, features, and opportunities.
  • Assess current competitor offerings, seeking opportunities for differentiation.
  • Analyze market data to develop sales strategies, and define product objectives for effective marketing communications plans
  • Conduct frequent analysis of the market, competitors, and customer perception data.

Product Innovation

  • Fully vet and evaluate current products within our stores, recommend new products or discontinue existing products, as needed.
  • Work hand in hand with the sourcing team and vendors to ensure accurate development of a product, with due diligence and great attention to detail.
  • lead the product development process by partnering with cross-functional teams such as purchasing, creative, quality control, and logistics to ensure a successful launch.
  • Determine product pricing by utilizing market research data; reviewing production and sales costs; anticipating volume; costing special and customized orders
  • Mine data and consumer insights in order to keep innovations consumer-grounded and to ensure high profit potential for items.
  • Ensure that proper financial assessments are completed on all innovation projects and that proper approvals occur in accordance with process.
  • Track new item performance and report results. Manage post-launch requirements, including product enhancements and optimizations as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills
  • Proven track record collaborating successfully with internal and external partners
  • Energized by an entrepreneurial, fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Able to lead through ambiguity
  • Capable of working both strategically and tactically with strong attention to detail

Category Managemet

  • Minimum of 7 years in a Category Management / Analyst role
  • The ability to rapidly develop strong knowledge of the products in an assigned category
  • Experience and understanding of sales, trade, category management, brand management and marketing.
  • Established relationships within the Product & Manufacturing Ecosystem of your category
  • Strong Market level awareness of trends, general direction and competitive landscape of you Category

Data Analysis

  • Proven analytical skills & ability to successfully integrate different streams of information into sound propositions
  • Excellent analytical and data-mining aptitude, coupled with strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Aptitude in proactively and resourcefully collecting information and perspectives to analyze situations and anticipate emerging trends.
  • Solid mathematical and investigative skills.
  • Experience with common statistical analysis methods is preferred 

Product Innovation

  • A strong background in market driven product management / development, vendor/partner management
  • Highly skilled at market analyst with a proven ability to execute the full lifecycle of product production from conception through release
  • Demonstrated marketing competencies with particular strength in innovation, consumer insights and strategic thought leadership.
  • Ability to effectively move between wide-ranging creative, possibilities assessment and focused technical, financial and operational discussions.
  • Proven experience driving product innovation / enhancement based on customer & manufacturer feedback.
