Reporting to the COO, our business team is seeking a motivated leader to drive our corporate and business development initiatives. In this role, your responsibilities will include developing and executing our company strategy for “inorganic” business growth across publications, writers, platform technology, readership, new formats, and long-lead investments. That means advising and guiding the CEO, CPO, and COO on the best opportunities to grow the company beyond our core product, which will involve researching, evaluating and negotiating potential acquisitions and partnerships. You will be a cross-functional player, working with the product, engineering, and content teams to determine the best deals that work for our business and how to execute. You will build a mighty yet nimble small team and guide them to success. You will be successful if you are proficient at analyzing various businesses, building and maintaining relationships, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, executing complex transactions and projects, and building/leading teams.

What will you do?

• You will analyze global media trends and internal company trends to identify the competitive landscape and new business opportunities.
• You will source opportunities, build and maintain deal flow in categories of interest.
• You will conduct rigorous analysis on potential opportunities, including valuation and financial modeling.
• You will collaborate regularly with the Editorial, Platform, Product, Engineering, Legal, and Finance teams to identify business needs and relevant partnership and acquisition opportunities.
• You will close deals and negotiate with integrity for the best possible outcomes for all parties.
• You will guide and assist all aspects of M&A execution and integration processes.

Requirements

• You have 10 years of relevant experience at an internet or media consumer company or premier investment firm, including at least 5 years of management experience. 
• You have strong analytical, financial, leadership, and partnering skills; you are intellectual, curious and are happiest when creating strategy and executing (i.e. doing deals). 
• You have a demonstrated ability to independently and logically frame a problem, provide the analysis required to answer the question, and drive cross functional teams to resolution. 
• You are an expert in the media and technology industries and have a passion for branded consumer products and experiences.
• You can prioritize trade-offs independently.
• You have experience working with distributed teams and are no stranger to staying seamlessly connected to your team while you're on the road.
• You have successfully built and lead small teams before and are known as a strong leader.
• You possess established senior-level industry-relevant contacts (preferred but not required).
