Build and operate Benchling’s AWS cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes, networking, secrets, observability, infrastructure-as-code, and cost governance. Develop internal APIs, automation, CLIs, serverless tools, and AI assistants. Own complex projects from design through production, establish technical standards, support incident response and on-call operations, and collaborate across engineering teams to improve secure, reliable, and cost-effective platform delivery.

Build and maintain full-stack features for Benchling’s workflow engine, recipes, assays, and related life sciences products. Develop backend services, frontend interfaces, workflow data models, and AI-enabled functionality. Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and AI teams; write tested and documented code; participate in code reviews and on-call support; and work onsite in San Francisco three days per week.

Own the technical direction and delivery of Benchling’s internal tools and automation portfolio. Build production systems, SaaS integrations, workflow orchestration, CI/CD, and secure enterprise infrastructure. Partner with internal teams to identify automation opportunities, graduate prototypes into reliable systems, support production operations, enable non-engineering builders, and establish engineering standards. The role also includes technical hiring, mentoring, architecture, threat modeling, and selective application of LLMs and agentic workflows.

Build developer-experience tooling and frameworks that streamline development, testing, packaging, and production releases. Lead release tooling designed to move code changes to production within 10 minutes, implement quality feedback loops, and improve engineering workflows using qualitative and quantitative feedback. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to enhance developer productivity, engineering practices, and operational patterns while helping scale the team and platform.

As a Software Engineer, you will design and build critical systems for enterprise customers, ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing product capabilities.
