San Francisco-based product analytics platform PostHog announced Thursday it raised $9 million in a Series A round led by GV.

PostHog has had a whirlwind year. Back in January, the company entered the Y Combinator winter program. Two months later, it closed on a $3.2 million seed round led by YC’s Continuity Fund.

“When we were working, it sounds fluffy, but being surrounded by ambitious and impressive people has probably been the most important part of being here so far. Being in San Francisco with YC gave us easy real-life access to many of the real thought leaders in technology,” James Hawkins, co-founder and CEO of PostHog, wrote in a blog post.

PostHog’s open-source platform enables users to automate the collection of every event on a website or application, with no need to send data to third parties. The platform aims to give customers a comprehensive look at their data with visual viewing options that include heat maps, retention tables, user paths and an array of other data visualization tools.

“We believe the era of third-party product analytics software will eventually come to end,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement. “In our view, third-party analytics doesn’t work anymore in a world of Cookie Laws, GDPR, CCPA and many other four-letter acronyms. There should be an alternative to sending all of your customers’ personal information and usage data to third parties like Google.”

In addition to its multiple data visualization tools, the platform provides deployment capabilities via Docker and Heroku.

The additional capital will go toward advancing research and development as the company continues to scale. The company is also on the lookout for a marketing lead, growth engineer and full-stack software engineer to join its remote team.

PostHog is free for individual users, with custom pricing for enterprise teams. Given the latest round, the company has raised $12.2 million in venture capital financing to date.
