Modular, a developer-oriented AI infrastructure company, has raised $100 million in a new round of funding led by General Catalyst. This second round of funding follows its first $30 million round from last year and will enable the company to supercharge its vision for the future of AI infrastructure.

Modular has built a unified AI engine that provides full compatibility with major AI frameworks and delivers performance and cost savings on todays CPUs. It plans to support GPUs by the fall of 2023. Its technology aims to improve the nature of AI programmability, usability, scalability, compute efficiency and hardware utilization.

The company also developed Mojo, a programming language that it claims is 35,000x faster than Python. Modular is now offering developers the ability to download Mojo and a whole developer toolset locally to their desktops and plans to release the Mojo standard library in open source and accepting contributions by the end of the year.
