What's It Like to Work at Altana?
Altana Employee Perspectives
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
Fun, fast and intellectually engaging. The collapse of globalization is the most important geopolitical event of the twenty-first century; the rise of AI is the most important technological one. Being a marketer here means getting to live at the intersection of both. We contribute to the global, geopolitical discussion about the future of trade and help educate importers, logistics providers and customs agencies about how an end-to-end, agentic network for global trade helps save time and money, target enforcement and facilitate the flow of trusted shipments.
This makes every day exciting and varied. At one moment, I might be listening to a customer call to learn how we’re helping a business prove compliance and avoid border detentions. After that, I might be reading a brief on new policy regulations and translating for our prospects. And later, I might meet with academics to discuss macro trade and supply chain research. The throughline is learning and addressing the real, tangible problems facing the global trade system. It’s refreshing to work at a tech company in which the outcomes don’t feel ethereal. Our work determines how real goods and products move around the world.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
Our mission is to fix globalization. We believe the way to make it happen is through a network for trusted trade. Brand awareness is critical. We need the market, our customers and top talent to associate us not just with trade, but also with trust and with a network.
We put a huge emphasis on surrounding potential buyers and members of the trade community with the Altana brand. This can be through major thought leadership content, like our Future of Trade Forum reports on trade topics like USMCA, earned media placements in top-tier business press and trade publications and executive communications. And it extends into our full suite of go-to-market activities: differentiated analyst briefings, targeted prospect targeting and advertising across channels, top-tier event marketing, rich product demos, thoughtful BDR outbounding and beautiful design and visual identity.
We have company values of trust, resilience, stewardship and courage, which imbue how we serve our customers and also how we work with each other internally. We constantly think about how our marketing activities –– a report, a design, an advertisement –– establish and reinforce these values in the market.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
I’ve been on great teams before, but this is the most fun, fast-moving and talented marketing team I’ve ever worked with.
Sharp strategies, creative problem-solving and collaborating to get stuff done are the table stakes. What makes our team unique –– and what candidates should know before they even apply here –– is that people who succeed with us blend intellectual curiosity, professional modesty and a commitment to their craft. Our marketing team includes leaders and practitioners who have scaled brand-name tech companies, run their own business, or managed customs and trade operations at multiple Fortune 500 companies. We value that expertise, but more than anything, we emphasize learning, getting better and deepening our understanding of our market over time. The pace of regulatory change means the global trade environment is totally different than it was 18 months ago; the tools available to us as marketers feel like they get more powerful every month. When I started at Altana, I wondered when I’d feel like I knew everything. I still don’t, never will and now I’m grateful for it, because daily intellectual rigor and continuous skill development is a feature of working here.
