The Regional Surety Bond Underwriting Manager leads an underwriting team, manages a commercial surety portfolio, and ensures profitability through strategic business planning and relationship management.

Develops playbooks, governance, metrics, and operating routines while embedding customer-centricity across business planning and execution.

Represents The Hartford and its policyholders in California workers’ compensation defense matters from inception through resolution. Responsibilities include managing caseloads, researching law, investigating facts, drafting pleadings and motions, handling discovery, preparing for depositions and hearings, participating in WCAB proceedings and settlements, communicating with claims partners, and developing toward independent case management with mentorship.

Represent The Hartford and its policyholders in California workers’ compensation matters from inception through resolution. Independently manage a substantial caseload, develop litigation strategy, conduct discovery and depositions, draft and argue motions and appeals, handle hearings, trials, settlements, and ADR proceedings, and advise claims partners and insureds. The role also includes maintaining client relationships, staying current on workers’ compensation law, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to legal process improvements in a primarily remote environment.

Senior in-house attorney handling complex high-exposure litigation in Northern California. Independently manages cases from inception through trial, conducts legal research, drafts pleadings and motions, tries cases first-chair, advises claims partners and insureds, and provides damage/liability opinions.

Manage regional and national employee benefits accounts from implementation through renewal. Serve as the primary liaison for clients, brokers, underwriters, account executives, and internal teams. Responsibilities include resolving service issues, coordinating enrollment and implementation, leading account reviews and renewals, supporting retention and growth, identifying cross-sell opportunities, presenting tailored solutions, maintaining documentation, and improving customer processes. The role requires employee benefits expertise, relationship management, licensing, a disability specialist designation, and approximately 20% travel.
