Quality Engineer
*This job cannot be performed remotely post-COVID or in the state of Colorado.
About the role
We're looking for a Quality Engineer who has an experience with at least one full web technology stack, an eye for bugs and design flaws, and a white/grey box testing mindset. If you love coding, testing, and isolating difficult to reproduce bugs this challenge might be for you.
At Chime we believe there's no one single owner of quality, that we collectively own the quality of our products. As a Quality Engineer at Chime you'll work with a motivated team to define quality and the metrics by which we will track it. You'll help instill the processes and procedures we'll need to live up to that standard. You'll advise our development teams on the creation of their test plans, showing the way yourself if you need to. You'll act as a Quality Product Manager, creating and refining a backlog of test automation and product instrumentation stories to ensure the dev teams spend their time coding rather than running manual tests. You'll roll your sleeves up when necessary (or when you want to - we all got into this business because we love coding and all things technical) to do a spot of implementation yourself.
In this role, you can expect to
- Maintain Test Environments. Work with TechOps to build and validate test environments.
- Serve as an escalation point for test failures in the CI pipeline.
- Provide support to developers as need to add & maintain automation on their own.
- Build a Coverage Roadmap. Create a data driven coverage roadmap to identify the most impactful areas to add coverage and to identify tooling/instrumentation to make it possible.
- Issue Isolation. You will identify the root causes of member escalations and provide development with reproductions and proposed automated coverage to prevent regressions.
- Manage cross product team integration coverage. This may mean implementing automation that has no clear owner or coordinating coverage efforts between multiple teams to ensure the coverage is in place.
- Develop and implement a set of quality metrics that report on our coverage progress and represent the member experience.
To thrive in this role, you have
- BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages
- 3-5 years experience in a highly technical Quality Engineering, Test Engineering, or Quality Assurance role
- Familiarity with performance and capacity management and monitoring tools for application, infrastructure and networks
- Experience designing, developing, and managing automated testing
- Experience testing data analytics services leveraging distributed data stores
- Experience testing platform APIs and testing web-based user interfaces
- Willing and able to work in San Francisco
